In their own words - Dominique Meysel

Dominique Meysel

“As I move on from high school, I can see how this school has helped shape who I am today. These memories include achievements such as being the first recipient for full colours for chess at Jeppe Girls, and being given a part in the school’s biggest production: “FAME: the musical!”

My time as a Ruth First scholar has been an epic journey starting out with a fond memory of a golf day which I attended in Grade 8 with the previous 4 matriculants of 2015 and continuing with relaxing and helpful/insightful mentorship meetings on Saturdays mornings. I forged many strong relationships during that time and had the privilege of working with Pelonomi Moiloa, whom I regard as an influential mentor and wonderful friend.

I have come a long way from the little Grade 7 girl applying for a high school scholarship to Jeppe Girls under the prestigious name of Ruth First. I hope I can give back to the trust as much, and more so, as it has given to me.

In 2017 I plan to study International Relations at the University of Johannesburg. My long term goal is to travel and explore the world.
