Margaret shines at the Africa Children Summit!

We are so proud of Margaret Peterson (centre of the picture in red), one of our Grade 12 Ruthies, who participated at the Africa Children's Summit in Kenya this month! Along with being a Ruth First scholar, Margaret is a Nelson Mandela Legacy leader, a member of the Nelson Mandela Children's Parliament and a beneficiary of Afrika Tikkun.

Margaret was selected to represent South Africa at the Summit and moderated discussions related to education, violence against children and the development of an action plan to address these issues in the African continent. Margaret, and her fellow South Africa delegates, have been tasked with engaging with the South African government to implement this action plan.

We asked Margaret what her highlights of the trip were:

"It's difficult to choose just a few highlights. Having the opportunity to moderate and facilitate the whole event was a challenging, wonderful experience! I also enjoyed meeting new people and making friends in Kenya. Engaging with other young people living in different parts of Africa, and hearing about their experiences, was very special."

Margaret is pictured above with Prof. Philip Jaffe, the Vice-Chair of the United Nations CRC.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
